Dom Pérignon Please, We’re Launching

Please take out the champagne bottles, ladies and gentlemen, we’d like to announce the launch of Ashwamedha ’09. From today the hunt for the one true leader is officially on. It’s been a remarkable journey so far. Many ideas were thrown in, thrown out, thrown around, thrown back and then finally slam-dunked nicely. Many nights were spent discussing important issues like Skeletor, Samurai Warriors & Liv Tyler. Plans were prepared, discarded, prepared again, discarded again, until we stopped making plans of any sort. Detailed time-lines were developed and then completely ignored. Many mails were sent back and forth discussing what pizzas to order. And in between all this we (somehow) manged to get an event in shape. And a mighty nice one too I should say!

We present to you this year’s Ashwamedha and invite you to join us in this journey. Over the course of the next 4 weeks we aim to discover that one challenger who rises above the rest and becomes a true leader. And we thought we were working as a team…and the only female member of the group tried to poison the group with fungus…we knew girls could kill, but there are much much better ways to do so..and guys would not mind that..but poison??? Good that we have only 10% girls on campus then!!!

We at Ashwa are of the firm belief that the best needs to be found out..with this challenge in mind, the next logical progression is to broaden the horizons..so for the first time..we have opened registrations to corporate executives, to come and fight it out with the best minds at India’s and International Top B-schools..its definitely a challenge for both, and as the competition gets tougher, we expect the best to come out…its surely going to be a unique experience…May the best one win:)

3 posts in 4 months is not a great blogging achievement. (Not even by my erratic standards) So first of all we’d like to apologize for being extremely laggard in updating this thing. In our defense, we were so busy designing an awesome event that we completely forgot to tell the world about it. Now the time has come to make amends for this oversight. Over the next few days we hope to put out details of what all we’ve done so far. So stay tuned for more.

Wallpapers: Trying to come up with a good wallpaper series for Ashwa. So far I’ve been trying out variations of the horse motif. Any better suggestions folks?

All About Posters

The past few days have been quite dull for the Ashwa team. The junior team selections that were planned for last week had to put off due to scheduling problems (I was rather looking forward to the chance of ordering people around). Also we had hoped to start the hunting process for the judges of Ashwa ’09, but even that got delayed. All in all there are not too many updates to write about. I’ll instead use this space to talk about the posters that we’ve put out so far.

Posters have always been an important communication medium for Ashwa. The posters for the event over the years have always communicated a simple message: There is only one winner. This has been the guiding principle for developing all creative content related to the event. This year we started working on the posters quite early. The plan was to have a good pool of posters ready when we have to send them out to other B-Schools and also to generate some buzz within the campus.

This was the very first poster we put up. It was conceived as a teaser poster. With that aim the design was kept as simple as possible, using only the text for effect. The poster was made pretty much in one sitting with Nachiket and Srinath coming up with the excuses and me putting them in as fast as possible.

The poster started off as a very serious poster that was supposed to impress and inspire the audience. However after a few excuses we ran out of things to say that did not sound cliched. So we decided to take the easy way out and make it lighter in tone with some subtle and some not-so-subtle digs at people. In hindsight, it was a great idea to make it lighter because the response to this poster was amazing. The phenomenal number of nominations that we received for the junior team could be attributed in part to the success of this poster. This poster most probably would be sent out to other B-Schools at a later date with some changes to replace the IIM I insider references.

This is the poster that has been taking ages to get printed. This was planned as our recruitment poster for the junior team. We wanted to put it up before starting the selection process. However printing delays and paper shortages at the IT Dept has pushed back the poster’s launch. Hopefully (fingers crossed) we’d be able to get it printed today. The good thing is that since the selection process has also been postponed we might just make it in time.

This one is a purely internal poster. The idea was to represent what qualities are required to be part of the Ashwa team. Again we started out with the aim of making a serious poster and ended up taking liberal potshots at our senior team! (I think we should stop trying for serious posters altogether) We’d however like to place on record that all five of our seniors are Grade-A chappies. It was a wonderful experience working with them on Ashwa ’08.

The response to this poster has been entirely restricted to the web till now, but even that has been very encouraging. The content writing took a long time with long discussions over mails on which is the best way to convey Raj’s fascination with Zingaro. We are also thinking about a poster that showcases the past winners of Ashwamedha but that’s just a idea at this point.

Somewhere deep down inside me is a virtuoso programmer who is much constrained by my ignorance of any programming language whatsoever. So I restrict myself to dropping references to programming wherever I can get away with it. So much for the title, now to get on with what this blog is all about. Well, we’ve been planning to put up an Ashwa blog for some while now. 11 months to be accurate. And now, after much procrastination, finger-pointing and general laziness later, we are happy to introduce you to the Ashwamedha Blog <Fanfare, Fireworks, Screaming Girls>

What do we do here? For one, we’d be regularly updating this with our latest escapades. Also, we hope to put in a few pieces on what Ashwa stands for and what makes it work. Who knows, we might even rope in some of our judges and others to write a few guest posts! To keep up with all this do drop in occasionally or, if you would so prefer, add us to your RSS subscription service. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome, so don’t shirk from typing away to glory!
